Red bull Air Race at Liberty state park

And I just read the info again and we will not be allowed to anchor. That puts a damper on the fun.

Cheap SOBs

From teh Red Bull Air Race site:

The Red Bull Air Race and local authorities discourage viewing from boats on the water during
the race. USCG will set up a safety distance regarding all vessels and based on this all
spectators are advised that the best way to view the race is from the official ticketed areas.

We will be getting waked by a lot of boats in that area. The various tourist boats go right past there for the statue. Also, that is a main area for barges, etc. We will be rocking and rolling, especially if there is any wave action.

It's in the current Local Notice to Mariners, on the USCG website for District 1. I don't have the link handy, but I found it last week. Keep scrolling down the PDF, and towards the bottom was a screen shot of a chart of the area, including restricted zones, etc.

You can find it by following the steps in my other thread about neat things near nyc

We'll be staying at Liberty Landing and sitting in the grandstand to watch the races. The thought of having to hold the boat steady for hours on end for the 2 days of racing does not appeal to me at all.

The big boats have a great spot to watch from. I have too many people coming to change plans now. I will just be at the helm for 2 hours. Good thing the admiral can handle the boat. She will get a turn or two.

We'll be there. Where does it say there will be no anchoring?

"Spectator vessels intending to view the event from any of the designated spectator vessel viewing areas should be prepared to maintain position without anchoring. Vessels will NOT be authorized to anchor at any time in the spectator vessel viewing areas.

Staying away from that mess. 2 hours doesn't seem long till your trying to keep your boat in place without an anchor.

A couple of days ago, the fine was up to $50,000, if it keeps going down, they will be paying us!

"Prepared to maintain position without anchoring" - hmmmmm, lots of room for interpretation there!

Agreed but this line seems pretty clear to me, "Vessels will NOT be authorized to anchor at any time in the spectator vessel viewing
areas."

I guess you can anchor unauthorized thou...

Is there anything about anchoring in area other than the spectator Vessel Viewing.

What if I am not there for the races but rather the view of the city and my boat spins and I end up viewing the races?

You can anchor behind the statue, but at that distance, with Ellis in te way I doubt you would see much

Exactly, Leigh! It will be a nice day for a ride in any event.
