When do you reserve your 2010 slip?

I pulled my boat Wednesday and got a note on my windshield to call the marina. I called them and the new manager, gave me the riot act that I should have left the boat there for the winter. He then badgered me to reserve my slip now over the phone for next year. Then he called back giving me a hard time about not paying an up charge when I moved from a 25' to a 33'. I understand the woman who allowed me to move in August and not charge me was let go, but how is this my problem. He then once again requested a deposit to reserve my slip right now. WTF is the matter with people. Does anyone have any customer service skills!

That is why a lot of boaters no longer winter there, and why boaters are leaving that marina for the summer as well.

The slip i'm in is mine until i die or leave. I always pay in full April 15th. Maybe they're afraid you'll leave them !!. So they want some money now to keep you there.

Yeah, that new manager tried to get me for half my winterization costs as a "deposit". Talk to Cheri instead when she's in (usually during the week) -- I've always been able to reserve my slip in September with a $500 deposit, same with the winterization.

Stony Point Bay Marina is really heading downhill. They caused lots of damage last year that they refuse to repair or pay for. In many cases they tell you to use your own insurance to get the needed repairs paid for. That's the primary reason people aren't wintering there. Why pay someone to screw up your boat?

They inflate repair bills and back charge for things on a regular basis. The new marina manager is a pompous ass and has already gotten in a fight which from what I hear he was thrown in the water! The marina is pretty much run by the owners son and he is a spoiled brat without any clue with dealing with customers OR THEIR PROPERTY. They treat boats in a very non-professional manner.

Couple all that with very skinny water and lack of any additional investment in maintaining the property and it is no wonder people are leaving in droves. Both winter and summer.

A once great marina is being run into the ground.

Where else are you going to go in the area with those amenities? Family friendly as far as the pool and other boaters. I have 2 young kids and without that marina this year I would be out of it all together. I was at Haverstraw for 19 years. Its fine for adults but nothing close by for the kids. Pennybridge may have a good group there as well but nothing to offer little kids. I am not saying SPBM is the end all but it works for us for now. Haverstraw will nickle and dime you as well and their service dept has not a a great track record as well.

Exactly why we enjoy Patsy's Bay as much as we do, and so do our kids and grandkids.
Wonderful management staff...very accommodating...family atmosphere...great pool (not just 4' deep like SPBM)..."snack shack"...every place has pros and cons...Patsy's has so much positive going for it, and they have made several improvements in the last several years, especially since acquiring Belle Harbor.
Fate is strange...when we were victims of SPBM's former management 4 seasons ago, and were "invited to leave" because they were feuding with our mechanic, it turned out to be the best thing that ever happened.

I believe every marina has issues no matter where you go, alot of members have left and came back, what are you suppose to do when you have so many friends and good times just leave and go somewher else where you might have issues also, there's just not alot of choices in our area so you just have to deal somtimes. I go to my boat to have fun with friends and relax try not to deal the the drama.

I don't disagree with you, but it just pisses me off to see the manager acting like this. If I treated my customers like this, I wouldn't have any left. How sad is it that a marina stays in business due to lack of competition.

If management pisses you off then do something about it.

I guess there is a reason why PennyBridge was the only marina in Stony Point and Haverstraw that had ALL of it's slips filled last summer.

I have a feeling that good management like PB's may have spread to Patsy's. There may be 2 full marinas in the near future.

Wow. I take my boat to SPBM for the winter. I have been doing business with them since 2003 when Gene was there. I have always been treated fairly and with respect. The one year after Gene left and Tony was the manager wasn't that great. Dave was good. I've been dealing with John Murphy for the last couple of years.

I brought my boat up in the beginning of October. Same prices as last year and they didn't ask for any deposit. He's taken good care of me and my boat. But I will say that it will only take one bad experience for me to take my business elsewhere.

My regular Marina in Jersey City requires that you reserve your slip with a deposit by Nov 15 if you want it held for next year.

We looked at your summer marina a few years back Michael but the lack of parking, 1 car per slip, was a deal killer for us. Otherwise it's a decent marina. The view at night must be intense.

I never hear much of Patsy's. Anyone on the board over there? Is the water any deeper?

Maybe I should throw the manager in the water again...

why do I get the feeling that G dock will be empty next year.
I have always put a deposit for my slip in Sept. or Oct the latest. I have been told that there will be a number of changes next season. Such as charging for LOA and measuring every boat it's making me think twice about the swim platform I want to add. I don't get the warm fuzzy feeling from the new management every time I walk in the office there are new faces that don't know me or my boat but they assure my things are going to change around here. I'm not sure I will like the changes but I love the marina and my slip. I don't want to leave, but it might make me think about getting out of boating which would suck. SPBM is a second home to me and my wife I hope the changes are for the better. I may be alone on this but I would like to see Wayne around more next year he a least tries to make things better.

The year Wayne was on site, never any issue, in fact when we had an issue he would take care on it that day.

I usually deal with Cheri or Murph (John Murphy) -- have never had a problem. The one time I had a problem with Dave (regarding a warranty repair), Wayne happened to walk in and ask Dave 'why can't we do the warranty work like the man expects us to do". That was nice. So far, my only issue was with Tony when we first got up there (shore power Y was stolen from the slip), have had no issues since.

And Ed's still about the best mechanic in the area.

Is it Cheri or Cheryl? I was told Cheryl in the office is gone.

So then why do so many SPBM people bring their boats elsewhere for service?
