Rust Remover

Anyone used this product? Sounds to good to be true.

Well, you learn something new every day. I checked the msds, then searched a bit on chelating agents for rust and found the below link. Time for some experimentation.

I guess that is a bit acidic. Citrus juice and colas have been know to be mild rust removers.

I have used Ketchup and vinegar with some results at times when I am not prepared for the job at hand.
Phosphoric acid is in my 'go to' spray bottle and a good compromise between too active and too mild an acid - cheap as well.

But always googles and gloves with acids - now that I am older anyway.

Evapo-Rust says the effective usefulness of the used liquid depends on the increasing iron content after multiple use. I wonder if there is some way to reduce the iron content , say via magnet or filtering, to prolong remaining effectiveness.

Interesting test using that 9:1 water and molasses solution.

I generally use Ospho phosphoric acid solution for rust neutralizing, but a lot more care must be taken with its use.

My goto has always been and continues to be muratic acid. Works great and cheap as well as readily available......D.......

My goto has been Naval Jelly. Phos acid in a clingy jel to help it hold on.

Home Depot has it. I'm sure Lowes as well, but I have purchased it at the depot.

Great rust remover is Whink ! Usually found in super markets and or hardware stores. Keep away from aluminum. If get on glass or AL rinse well....rust w/b gone.

What do you need it for?

For rust stain on Fiberglass, Starbrite rust stain remover is spray on and rinse
For rust on stainless steel tubing, rail etc I use that cloth in a the blue can.... Forgot the name,
For rust on steel parts like engine mounts, etc... I use .. Crap... Forgot the name too... Sorry oh...POR15

Stuff in blue can is Never Dull; tho I think they have changed from the blue can. Regardless, Never Dull is the product. Whink is still "GREAT"!

Whink in the brown bottle works great on removing rust stains on gelcote.
