Bill, thanks for posting, I won't aware of this and we re heading this way in a couple of weeks.
I know it s a matter of preference but , I never cared for Samson, I found the place too cold, and that went for the management too... I remember a couple of years ago staying there for 2 days and walking to the store at 4:55 and being told sorry we re closing, Come back tomorrow. That and an average of $175 a day in electricity left a bad taste in my mouth,,,
But it is a well protected marina... I think there were many boats there which were there on a seasonal basis with owners flying in and out, that s who is going to be affected the most.
Personally I don't go to the Bahamas to stay at a big marinas like Atlantis or Albany and talking to our guests I think most people like experiencing the real exumas by anchoring out. Staniel is different, it is special, even though it s exposed in a front and power never stays up for more than a half day but just about everyone took there wanted to stay an extra day or come back.
Speaking of going private, there is construction on Gun Cay... A few months ago, there were bulldozers by the light house, last week end there was a bobcat and construction crew at the north side, just off the beach at honeymoon with new signs "no trespassing"

the crew was shuttling to and from a commercial work boat rafted with an 80' MY ...
