Well I guess I'm done. Today I drain and blew out the water system. I also changed the oil, filters and fuel filters so there is not much left to do. I will winterize the motors and AC units when I get the boat out of the water. So this is it for me I hate this time of year.

Maybe I will get out on a friends boat (hint) before the season is completely over.

Being I hate the cold I generally hibernate in the winter. When I was younger I enjoyed Skiing and other outdoor thing but now I have very few winter hobbies and they are all indoors. I would like to try snowmobiles but the cold is a big deterrent.

Me, our season is about to begin. I know what I should go and do :D But we've been waiting a while for this! Reflecting on the season up here, I don't recall a Summer/Fall where the rain came so hard and so quickly. It made a damn ugly mess of the North East and clobbered the canal systems. I thought Floyd was bad but having driven out to Sayre PA. after TS Lee dumped and took the Susquehanna to untold levels, I learned otherwise. The Hudson is still muddy brown! Here's hoping the Spring leads to light run off and no debris because it's all gone.
If we got through that mess without damage we should all be very thankful!

Today was gorgeous! We're looking forward to four more weekends. Looks good for overnights next weekend.

I have a Holiday next weekend which prevents me from using the boat on Friday and Saturday. The clock is ticking and I had a lot of work to get done. It this point I'm ahead of the curve. If I want I can use the boat next weekend just no water or head I probably won't anyway but I can if I want. I will speak to the yard and when they are ready I will bring it over.

Best part of the season is coming up in S. La.
Oct. to Jan. Cool nights, no gen., no a/c, low humitity.

Yup. Just have to keep an eye on the Westerlies after Dec..

I've heard from a couple of former upstate NY boaters who moved south that year round boating was different. Not the same intensity or interest as with a shorter season like ours. Is this true?

I grow up boating with my parents and they as well as all of their friends all got out of boating when or shortly after moving South to FL. They all said the same thing they found it boring there simply wasn't enough to do. There were all very used to boating on the LI Sound and had grown used to having so many places to travel to all with in a short distance. FL unless you are into fishing it's up and down the ICW and this can grow tiresome. My parents no longer have a single friend with a boat. These were avid boats most had 40 plus footers a few were in the 60s they were a fun bunch to travel with most were all members of the Huntington Yacht Club.

We run between 50 to 70 miles from home due to my wife's job. Can't go much farther than that.
But we can go North, South, East or West.
East, freshwater,we pay $10/night for elect., no water, in downtown Lake Arthur. We usually go there for festivals.
North, it's freshwater, all primitive. Few floating camps along the river, Cypress trees, no services, no fuel.
South, saltwater, one town, Gulf of Mexico, no services, no elect., just water. No charge for dock. Fuel.
West, one saltwater destination, free dock, free water, no services, but use of car/truck, fuel. Other two are freshwater,
$1/foot, water and elect., washer/dryer, showers, fuel, some services, use of car/truck, other is free w/elect., no services
but is downtown with few good eats and drink places.
We have a couple of spots right here where we live. Saltwater. One is $5/night, elect. and water. No fuel, no services.
Other is $20/night. Elect. and water, floating docks, right downtown, eats, drinks, stores.
Rest of our spots are mostly anchorages where we have to run generators, but winter time is the best time. Mid 50's at
night, low 70 daytime and sunny.
We mostly anchor out alone, but sometimes raft up. Boating is cheap, fuel is fair, dockage is cheap, except for at boat
yard where we keep boat. $200/month, elect. included, covered slip, not floating dock. Parts and services cause it is a
boat yard.
We can skip a weekend or two due to weather and just go when the weather is good. Year round. We live a mile or so from
the boat and can see if every time we pass over the bridge. I am off work for 2 weeks at a time, plenty of time to get
boat ready for when wife gets off work. Or stay at the city marina across the street from wife's work if something is
going on downtown.
We love boating. I only fish weekedays cause I don't like fighting the crazies who see you catch something then come in
on me and screw up my fishing on weekends. Boating weekends, fishing weekdays.
Season ends during bad weather. When it is over, season back on.
Season also over every couple years for bottom job and hull wax/polish.

Weather next weekend is showing mid 70's and sunny. Guess I'll give it one more week before I pull it out.

Ben how was your day yesterday where did you guys all go? Thanks for the invite but I had my hands full changing the oil and stuff.

We went up to POU for the Kids Expo on the waterfront. Got there a bit late but it was nice to be out on the water. Still full of crap. Didn't see any dead deer, but we did see a floating picnic table. The incoming tide was incredibly strong too.

What kinds of kids were in the Expo and who is "Still full of crap"?

It's not "who is still full of crap?" it's "what is still full of crap?" and that would be the river.

This coming weekend is looking better and better! Hopefully, we'll be Rafted-up in Bowline.

I may go for a ride on Sunday before I drop off the boat.

Check out the forecast for the next seven days. You may want to hold off hauling for a while around the Hudson River valley area. 70's and 80's with chilly nights. This may be our reward season.

I just got out over the weekend after a summer's worth of work on the boat and delayed by Mother Nature repeatedly. Promising forecast!
