We run between 50 to 70 miles from home due to my wife's job. Can't go much farther than that.
But we can go North, South, East or West.
East, freshwater,we pay $10/night for elect., no water, in downtown Lake Arthur. We usually go there for festivals.
North, it's freshwater, all primitive. Few floating camps along the river, Cypress trees, no services, no fuel.
South, saltwater, one town, Gulf of Mexico, no services, no elect., just water. No charge for dock. Fuel.
West, one saltwater destination, free dock, free water, no services, but use of car/truck, fuel. Other two are freshwater,
$1/foot, water and elect., washer/dryer, showers, fuel, some services, use of car/truck, other is free w/elect., no services
but is downtown with few good eats and drink places.
We have a couple of spots right here where we live. Saltwater. One is $5/night, elect. and water. No fuel, no services.
Other is $20/night. Elect. and water, floating docks, right downtown, eats, drinks, stores.
Rest of our spots are mostly anchorages where we have to run generators, but winter time is the best time. Mid 50's at
night, low 70 daytime and sunny.
We mostly anchor out alone, but sometimes raft up. Boating is cheap, fuel is fair, dockage is cheap, except for at boat
yard where we keep boat. $200/month, elect. included, covered slip, not floating dock. Parts and services cause it is a
boat yard.
We can skip a weekend or two due to weather and just go when the weather is good. Year round. We live a mile or so from
the boat and can see if every time we pass over the bridge. I am off work for 2 weeks at a time, plenty of time to get
boat ready for when wife gets off work. Or stay at the city marina across the street from wife's work if something is
going on downtown.
We love boating. I only fish weekedays cause I don't like fighting the crazies who see you catch something then come in
on me and screw up my fishing on weekends. Boating weekends, fishing weekdays.
Season ends during bad weather. When it is over, season back on.
Season also over every couple years for bottom job and hull wax/polish.
