Spring Boaters Fling

Al, I plan to be at Village West for Garlic Bros or I would be happy to bring something for a potluck 28 March. I had Pegasus out Saturday for a 45 minute run and she runs great and idles smooth. I think that water separating 10 micron fuel filter I put on last summer really helps. She runs so smooth I brought the electric trolling motor back home so I have my towel rack back for the garage sink.

The water was smooth as greased glass and a touch of fog on the water made it seem like winter but it was 72. I can see why you are hanging out on the delta this weekend Jim.

I renewed my Freshwater Unlimited BoatUS towing yesterday so I will have a belt and suspenders even without the trolling motor on board. Its nice having the bracket on the transom and 4 gage feeder back there so I can go electric whenever I want. I need to clean up my name graphics before the Spring Fling but I got the new vinyl lettering already I just want some warmer weather to apply them. Leland

Good to hear she's running smoothly. I agree that it's always nice to have the backup power options, though. I'm heading out this AM for some sturgeon and striper fishing. Looking forward to the day on the water!

I made a route this morning on Garmin MapSource for downloading to my GPS. It is 20.6 miles from SugarBarge to Village West, do I need to plan to go slow through Fourteen mile slough or can I go wide open throttle 28 mph after I clear the Piper Slough waypoint?

If I bring pressure cooker beans and rice with applewood bacon for the potluck I don't want them to get cold.
 
DD, there are a few areas where you will need to slow down from Sandmound to 14 Mile Slu, but most of it is wide open! On 14 Mile Slu there are no marinas, etc until the sharp right turn into Village West Marina, BUT watch out just before that turn. Many boats get up on plane and cut around that corner on the way out. Use your ears and eyes as well as be prepared to make any evasive maneuvers to avoid a collision.

Beware----When entering 14 Mile Slough from the Stockton Deep Water Channel, the west tip of Morrison Island there is a row of rock just below the water extending from the western tip of the island to about 50 yards westward. It is not visibe nor is it marked. During minus tide I have seen this out cropping of rock. So stay to the center of the channel when entering 14 mile slough. One of my friends ripped his outdrive lower unit out at this location, he was driving an 18 ft. SeaRay on plane during impact. My boat drafts 3-1/2 feet. My NOAA chart shows this as a series of very small broken dots.
 
Thanks Hugo I was entering 14 mile slough from the west but just changed that route section to enter east of Morrison Island by Ski beach waypoint. The route is 20.8 miles now instead of 20.6 from SugaB to Garlic waypoints but I will arrive with the outboard intact.
Thanks Flutterby for the heads up my eyes and ears will be wide open making the sharp turn into Village West watching for outbound traffic rounding the corner on plane.

A good way to avoid it is to turn towards the levee once you get under the line that connects the two towers that cross the channel. Then hug the bank. Or you can always enter on the other side by bikini beach.

You won't run into it this time of year, but people tow wakeboarders/skiers/tubers around that corner all the time. I've come around it to find a wakeboarder or skier in the water right in the middle of the corner too. Crazy.
 
CA is just a lil too far from Ontario I would miss the dinner travelling in my slow boat

Is it Kosher to join this group from land? I can't haul Albert down there, but I can drive! I'd love to meet up with some local ROs if possible. Is the date definite, yet, or still firming it up?

By land, by air or by sea...all are welcome! I might be joining you in coming by land if I don't get FlyWright back to seaworthy shape by the end of March.

I've got a 1980 Sea Ray SRV-192 that has been a great boat for me. I'd love to see Albert Again if you could swing hauling her down. Those old SRs sure ride nice for their size.

As far as the dates are concerned, I think we've committed to March 27-29, 2009. Hope you can make it. I'm really looking fwd to meeting all our local ROs. I feel like I already know many of you.
 
Yup, March 27-29, 2009 at Village West Marina near Stockton is what I have on my calendar. Anyone is welcome, even folks who don't have a boat!!!! Everybody pray for sunshine that weekend.

This sounds like a blast, but I won't be able to make it. Working nightshifts that weekend, and although I have 6+ weeks of vacation, I still can't swing it, and I'd really to be there. Maybe I can swing some kinda deal, but I doubt it.

I look forward to a full report though!
