Stony Point Bay Marina

Full moon high tide, high winds from the south and after 4 days of pouring rain!!!!

I remember one day my A/C thru hull spitting out mud when my boat was literally sitting on the bottom.

That's encouraging.

My rule with my 41' inboard was no coming or going 2 hours before/after low tide. And I was on the outside of G. But I'm really anal about my boat when it comes to mud and my nice props.

Outdrives shouldn't be a problem, except full moon low tides and low tides with persistent north winds that push the water out and down the river. I've personally seen an outdrive boat stuck half way into his slip.

You'll be fine after you blow the mud out, only have to do it a few times a year.

Rommer, I've got the bigger version of what Rob has (w/sterndrives), and I haven't had a problem in 2 years yet. You can't consider it deep, but I have two boats w/inboards on either side of me and they still float at low. That doesn't mean that they go out at low tide, but it's not like your sterndrives are being pounded into the mud.

I agree with George, I also have never had an issue with sitting on the bottom, but I also do not have a huge inboard type boat. If the tide is low I lift up the trim and go slow. Yes I can see some mud being churned up by my drives but they are not hitting anything. Now i was told of a strange story a few years ago where the wind and the tides were just right (or wrong) and it pushed all the water out of the bay, and the few boats that were in at the time were sitting on the bottom. This effected all the marinas in SP. Unless you are close to shore with a huge inboard boat you should not have any issues with enjoying boating when you want at SPBM....

Big difference between sitting in your slip and maneuvering about the marina and the channel. SPBM is a great marina with really nice people and overall I give the place very high marks but telling people you have 4' of water at low tide is not true. Hell, the charts only show a 3' depth for 95% of Stony Point Bay and we know how accurate those charts can be in areas like a protected bay.

I've seen more then one stern drive boat struggle to back into their slip because the outdrives were stuck in the mud. Many ac discharges putting out mud instead of water while they are leaving/returning to their slip. They keep working to make it better which is a great thing but most people observe the 2 hour before/after low tide as a no go window. Can you get in/out, sure but it is best to wait a bit.

Low water aside I still consider SPBM one of the best marinas on the river and recommend it highly. (There was a time when I couldn't say that but the new ownership has been a very positive experience!)

We did a drive by on Saturday morning. They cleaned it up allot over there. The playground area and the pool looked great. I am goign to stop by this week and talk to someone in the office to see about a slip for next year and winter this year. Is the office the little building where it used to be or the big building where the boat sales is?

The big building.

The little building is now a combo pool hall and library!

Hogan,
I hope this is making your decision easier. One spot left, you better grab it before it goes! We have enough water for you on G dock. Granted this year the tides have been very strange.

Yep, I'm convinced, staying at PBM - you guys can't even agree on whether there is water over there or not!

Is there anymore slips in "G" dock left for a 30ft boat? I dont want to go to a "Library" dock.

Should be Rob.

There is at least one boat that could easily be moved as the owner has 2 boats now and is selling one of them. It would be on the outside of the first set of slips on G dock. Port side of Winters Remedy I believe.
