Stony Point Bay Marina

Rob, I think it would be a good thing for your kids and for keeping you in boating.
But don't take my slip!!! lol

G-Dock is the place to go and you would also be on the inner dock.. (My Buddy Todd has the same boat as you (a few years older) and he has no problem on the inner dock. With I.O's you can pretty much come and go as you please.. Well maybe not at dead low...

SPBM has been good to me been there going on over 10 seasons now , no problems, the bar rest. is pretty good too and not a rip off like haverstraw, my 4 year old god daughter loves the playground and the mini beach when she gets bored of the boat, water depth is good except at dead low it's a bit shallow.. Wakes aren't a problem either , same as anywhere with a sea wall, people that say that stuff should sell thier boat and buy a condo overlooking the river, never will understand thoes comments, its a rver it has wind and traffic , its a boat it floats DUH !
The last comment wasn't directed at you , good luck with your choice SPBM is a good one in my opinion, nice folks too.
best whishes - Jon

I don't mind a little movement in the marina but I don't want to be tossed around the cabin.

C'mon jonf, what's wrong with a $14.00 hamburger? For a mere 5 bucks more you can even get fries. I understand they are delicious!

I'll pass on the condo and maybe I was there on a particularly bad couple of days but I have had to leave my boat at SPBM because the rock & roll was so excessive. I even found it very difficult to walk on the dock without taking a swim. I certainly would not expect the calm I have at Haverstaw, which by the way I think is TOO calm sometimes, but getting rocked so hard that its even difficult to stay in your seat is just not pleasurable for me. Never said it was that bad all the time but it does seem to have more rock & roll than others..at least when I have been there. Your definition / tolerance of "wake" & mine may be different jon, no reason for either of us to leave boating but rather find the situation that best meets our needs.

Gotcha marsij, But I wasn't directing my comments at you or anyone on this thread directly , just makes me laugh when I hear that a bit of wake bothers people so much guess I am just prepared for that stuff.
I really should not say anything about that anymore since I 've downsized to 25 ft and keep her on the trailer now, but it's no fun launching and retrieving in waves.
Don't blame ya for leaving if you were getting bounced off the docks and agree with your last statement 100% , no hard feelings I hope .
Enjoy your slip where ever you are, and the rest of the season it's goes quick this time of yaer . see you out there marsij and best whishes -Jon-

You won't be.. When I was there it as never that bad... It rocks a little bit and you will be surprized how fast you get used to it...

Nope, no hard feelings at all. The wakes actually are not the reason I chose not to get a slip at SPBM, it was the depth. The people there are wonderful and I don't think you can beat the atmosphere of a smaller marina!

I love the rocking of the boat! My boat is the one place in the world I can get some really good sleep because of the rocking...there is often zero rocking at Haverstraw (at night)If it is windy out, most likely I am on my boat. We just all have a different level of whats pleasant & whats over the top.

With roughly 400 slips SPBM is no longer considered a small marina. Sure it's not as large as Haverstraw but it is the second largest in the area.

I said "smaller". Remember, I am comparing this to Haverstraw.

granted I'm new to the area this year, but we are in haverstraw with 2 little ones and we love it. there are kids all over the dock, and the pool is jammed packed with kids all the time. i know there is an adult element in a lot of parts, but there are a lot of kids too. The restaurant is expensive, but that makes going to neighboring marinas for dinner that much more fun if we don't want to pay the price. i was down in piermont so the lack of water, and the dozen times i couldn't even get out to the boat because of the rocking got to me. the calm deep water has actually been a relief. was it just different back in the day, or am i missing something?

I'm sold. There are a ton of positives about them and the only negatives are depth(not an issue for me) and rocking at the dock which I can deal with.

If a bunch of chachters from BE got together and went into SPBM maybe we can get a package deal.

Sweetness - I am looking at stepping up, I'll race you for a spot on G.

After typing that I realize now that there is a G spot and I will be looking for it at SPBM.

When I say kid friendly I am referring to the fact that SPBM has a huge playground, pool, basket ball and tennis court, skateboard ramps etc... and you don't have to walk miles to get them.

Don't get me wrong, I love Haverstraw and the people we hang with it is just that next season my son will be 2 and more active so I want him to be around other kids and facilities that are geared for children...

As a G dock derelict, I say the more the merrier!

Our kids are grown but we have a furry 6 year old that fits right in.

I'll have to go visiting this week/weekend to see whats going on over there.

If you do rob, look for "Winter's Remedy" on G-Dock.. His name in Todd and has a Rinker like yours and a 2 year old little girl..

He will fill you in on the depth and the rocking... and having small kids at SPBM.

I looked at one in CT a few weeks ago, nice boat. A hell of a lot more room than a 250. Unfortunatly my wife forbid me from being a 2 boat owner so I have some work to do in selling mine. When I get back from my vacation I'm going to try and see about moving it. At that point if you still have the 330 we can talk. I hate to waste anyone's time If I can't move mine.

What engines do you have? Hours? Generator?
Also what is your burn rate at cruise?

Thanks,
MJK

aperrino, I suppose it's just like I said earlier, it's just about what fits your needs. I understand there was a point that no one wanted to be at Haverstraw because it was very poorly managed...that was before my time but I have heard pretty bad stuff. When I first went there 11 years ago there was a dock master/office manager named "MaryLou". Everyone who knows her will tell you she was one of a kind. The closest thing to her ability is Dolores in Catskill...but she's not running a 1,000+ marina. Since MaryLou left a few years ago it has just not been the same. Haverstraw is by no means a bad place to keep your boat, you will find some who think it is, but again, it is a preference. Haverstraw is very much a business, period. And huge!! As opposed to say PennyBridge where it is much smaller, privately owned & Rick, Steve & JD have more of a family mentality of their customers. Still a business but not a BUSINESS...if that makes sense. For you, with kids who love the pool, game room etc, plus the fact that it is calm water and you probably have less worries about you kids bouncing off the dock in rough water..it's perfect. For me, with limited time and a job that just seems to be getting more & more stressful..I am really looking for a place I can just relax. When the restaurant was closed, was not too bad, now that it's back open it is quite possible to walk almost 1/2 mile to get to my boat if I'm parked way out, made even more enjoyable if I'm carrying lots of stuff. Going back to my car is another event. People throwing up in parking lot, driving crazy looking for a parking spot, drunk drivers, couples pawing at each other, guys peeing in the bushes, broken bottles in parking lot and more fist fights than I care to remember. I also find it unnerving that I have not once this year seen the red Haverstraw Marina truck with the security guys ...and I have been there four times after 11:00pm when the gate was wide open...held open with a dock cart. Those are some of what bugs me...but hey, once it did not bother me at all!! It's all about where you are in your life and what your needs are. I will also say though, some of the people I have met at Haverstraw are now lifelong friends whether I am in boating or not, and I would really really miss a lot of people if I leave.

Haverstraw is by no means a "bad" place to boat, its a great marina and SO protected. Crystal & staff have always been great to us and they work their tails off there. For you it is perfect...for me, the enormity of it is growing old.

By the way, Rob -- they are Volvo certified -- they've done my warranty work for me and it's been topnotch.

And D-dock has some 30's + on it, and they've even got a 4270 sitting in the first cross-dock area. Looks like they have some room. The more the merrier!

And yeah, Boatbum I do need to do that, trying to dodge wiring up more non-essential stuff in the cabin (or just being lazy!). Not sure how good the reception would be in any event -- I'm getting better reception now with the antenna on my arch. But they're still wiring, so hopefully they'll straighten it out. At least the WiFi is solid now!
