Wayne going to the town again Tuesday .... 400 condos and parking garage ... Some day he's going to get his way :(

I heard he's going to offer them to marina embers for 1/2 price.

I guess Dave will miss out!

If it ever gets built I worry:) Frankly the town needs the income so who knows maybe they will let it happen but I wouldn't hold your breath.

I'm glad I'm moved just think what a mess the construction will make of the marina.

Would cost the town more than it would bring in. No one wants a condo-townhouse development there, at least no one I have ever talked to.....for that matter no one wants Wayne there either. lol

But who knows, maybe there will be a day he can make that happen...I just hope I'm living down the shore by then!

You know, my partners Grandmother used to own ALL that property! Sold it back in the day when property was cheap cheap cheap. OY!

My guess is that he will get something approved. As Dave says, the town is in desperate shape. They have no industry left and taxes are out of control. I'm in favor of a nice waterfront community with some small shops and restaurants. If done properly it could be a great little destination. No land/woods is being taken away. They just need to fix the access roads. IMHO, the town would be nuts not to approve something.

More housing...more kids...more schools, teachers, administrators. Everyone everywhere is disgusted with the unsustainable rise in school taxes. We want want clean/green tax ratables that provide revenue with little/minimal/no strain on the existing infrastructure. We have no problem with something other than a marina being on that property, just don't want condos.

I understand your point but quite frankly, unless you convince industry to take over the area, housing and storefronts are the only option. I dont livein the town so I don't suffer the ever increasing rising taxes but I believe much is property increases because the town has no rateables. If the taxes on what is being built don't support the strain on the school and infrastructure, you need new town government.

How are you going to find 400 stupid people in this economy who want to live very to close to a very active CSX train line?

Diesel trains are very noisy and they run them all through the night.

We have a new town government. We elected them because they agree with what most of us in town want. Ratables without ever growing housing.

Robyns Nest...lol...very good point!! At night & early morning I can hear those trains at my house & I live 4 miles away!!

Good question since the Haverstraw condos are still not nearly full. No doubt the town needs something and without housing, local stores will never survive. It winll take some smart people to figure out a sustainable plan. What ever they do, I hope they do it right. It's certainly not an easy answer but I don't see any other industry waiting in line to come in and add to the town income.

How would firetrucks get there? They can't fit under the train tracks, they would have to go all the way around by the Penny Bridge.

Even going that way, they are probably within a mile of the property. Certainly still pretty close. Not sure how far fire department is from Haverstraw condos either. I still think if this property was built on smartly with a combination of condos, marina and small shops/restaurants it could be a big boost for the area.

Rumor has it that Wayne heavily supported one of the new members whom is very sympathetic to Wayne's cause. Just something I heard thru the grapevine, I have no first hand knowledge of this, may not be fact.

Don't know, may be true. What goes on out of the public eye goes on out of the public eye. I only know how the candidates spoke while campaigning & that most of us voted for the present team because they said they wanted revenue via business rather than housing. Is that true? No idea. Guess we will see.

Anchor Management, the local stores are not suffering for lack of housing that's for sure. Take a ride around the Stony Point back roads & see all the crazy big housing developments going up. I don't know whos buying these places!

Robynbest, I grew up right on the other side of the tracks (no pun intended) on Jackson Drive and my best friend lived on Hunter Place literally on the other side. I guess we got used to the sound but now whenever I bring my family to visit my Dad we get woken for the first few night at least. My wife just brings her ear plugs.

I may have mentioned previously that the town named the Park under the bridge after my Dad who is 90 and still lives in the same house.

There were times I thought the boat was rocking when the trains went by but even still there are plenty of homes built along rail roads there are tradeoffs to everything it's a great view. If it's done right they will sell certainly not million dollar condos but I would think there is money to be made!

There is always money to be made along the waterfornt. Look at Newburgh, the waterfront is absolutely mobbed Thursday to Sunday. If there were condos there I bet a bunch of yuppies would buy them up. In the case of Newburgh, you have not only the railroad, but also the ghetto to deal with.

Park Ridge just built condos right next to the commuter train line. Granted, it's not as noisy as a freight train, but they sure filled up quick. I think it'd be in the towns best interest to promote this.
