TEQUILA JACKS

OK. I like to read these threads because they are interesting. Even if I don't normally boat on the south shore, I still like to know what everyone is doing, where to go and to learn something.

Now it's never a good thing when a favorite spot shuts down and I can sympathize.

However, what I really learned from this thread is that:

A. I need more European clients

and

B. Dave should post where he is entertaining German guests so that we have the option of dining at the same establishment on the same night :) :) :)
 
Almost all of the restaurants in Ocean Beach on the bay side offer great sunset views. The best food in my opinion is at The Hideaway at Houser's Hotel. The Mermaid has a happening outdoor bar scene.

Also, in Ocean Bay Park, Flynn's has a great sunset. But the food is mediocre. Better to hang at the bar there during happy hour.
 
Have personally only docked at Flynn's and the Ocean Beach town marina by the tennis courts. I know Fred Chall keeps his boat (Club Fred) at the Mermaid every summer. And a friend of ours takes clients to Hauser's for lunch or dinner quite often by boat. I believe if you eat there, the docking is free. But the slips there are not very protected.

Flynn's is a relatively protected marina, if you get an INSIDE slip. They will give you a docking credit towards food, but you're better off using it for drinks there. They fill up on the weekends though-- Friday to Sunday. You could probably get in Sunday afternoon for Happy Hour.

Dave, have you done a stroll up and down the FI beaches? Yes NY does do that big time. Just walk down near the light house and other areas east of RM beach. There are even signs warning people when ok to be nude or not.
 
It must have went, no...............wait..............stop............we dont do that in NY. Unless the sights would have been better off dressed.

Docking in Ocean beach is pretty easy to come by in the town marina during the week, and even friday's if you get there early enough. During the weekend it is obviously a mad house. That marina is protected, but the boats still get rocked around quite a bit from the water taxis and wakes from other boats. I forgot what the rates are, but its somewhere around 40 bucksfor a couple of hours and maybe double that for the whole day. You can dock at the mermaid also, but they only have a few slips. Mathews and housers also have docking, and mathews gives you a credit towards food in he restaurant, but the boat takes a beating, as it is totally unprotected.
I was on Club Fred a couuple of times, that was some boat, and a pretty good party too!!!. My Wife works with his sister. He sold that boat last season.

Fortunatley, all my German guests kept their clothes on - They were all Guys! Although, one of them had a swim suit on, when he dove off my boat and swam to Sore Thumb beach, since he had no interest in fishing with us. Unfortunately, the German guys don't wear swim shorts - They wear speedos - Not what I wanted to see on my boat.

Most of my German colleagues come from Frankfurt and Bonn.

I agree, good job, keep up the good work. You should ask Les if he has a way to truely make it a "sticky" If it was a "sticky" it would always remain as the first post in the forum. If he does not do this it will eventually get lost in our forum.

Ah Frankfurt! Love that place, mine are South of there in Karlsruhe, but we always fly into Frankfurt!

Dave, I have relatives near Karlsruhe, I can’t spell the town, but sounds like Ettlingin. When I was there as a teenager around 16, a very beautiful German girl was on a tour bus with her parents, and yes I was with my parents.

We were heading to Baden Baden (SP) and she kept smiling at me and me back at her. No words were said. When we got off the bus to do a walking tour. She went up to my father and in Germen said “Can he speak or won’t he speak”

He explained that I only could say a few words in Deuch (SP), and she quickly went to her school taught English. It was better than European Vacation… I was in love for at least the rest of the day. Well the tour ended, I had an address and number. After the vacation, we wrote each other a few times, and then off to other high school romances.

What does this have to do with TJ’s, who knows, but Dave, thanks for the memory, it made my morning.

She is now a guy!

A friend told me that he has the updated story. Maybe a rumor, but I was told that a person bought the hotel and property for $1.8M and will rip it down and put up a single resident home. Construction will be higher than on the main land, I wonder what that rebuild will end up costing.

What a waste for us boaters, but not for the person buying it....
