Towing insurance a must!

You did say it was a soft grounding and you did say it was low tide. Would a little time and patience work? Just saying butI agree that tow insurance is a must unless you are B. Gates or Steve Jobs heir.

Just met a couple from Canada . One of the boats has a bad starter , neither boat has tow insurance ......

Yikes

If you want to be a nice guy get on their boat. You are covered on any boat.

I was going to say the same thing. :)

Had a subscription/membership for 12yrs or more. Best money I've never used.

There's always a Sea Tow and Boat US boat on the water, ready willing and able to help. Not just groundings...

Perry brings up a good point ! Chic at my marina more then once has gotten herself falling down wrecked in Freeport and flynns , calls seatow to get towed home with nothing wrong with her boat ! Piss's me off

Had just purchased my chris craft and took delivery march 06, didnt have any nav instruments on it, just a chart and depthfinder. boat had 3/4 tank fuel, and no one was open to top it off leaving east quogue. i calculated the run from shinecock to wantagh should take us no more then 3.5 hours and we had near 6 hours runtime on the fuel onbaord. let's just say -6 footers took us over 5 hours to get to FI inlet. hail sea tow, brought us 10 galloons of fuel, just enough to get back to wantagh running the state channel which we were much more familiar with. It paid for itself right there.

Also, a grounding just west of bulkhead drain. I'm in the insurance business and this is the best insurance for your baot.

$200 for seatow, I think it is more like $149.
It's about odds, you will use seatow before you use your insurance probably.

I just looked at my Seatow invoice. I pay them $169 a year.

Variable rates?

I've shared my story before. Safe to say BoatUS has more than paid for itself in my case. Been with them for over 15 years. Didn't use them for the first five or so. Then overheated an engine just after leaving Westhampton, not even at Moriches yet. Anchored quickly, hailed BoatUS, they arrived within 10 minutes. Got towed all the way from basically Westhampton to Massapequa. Handed off to two different BoatUS boats along the way flawlessly. Invoice comes later and is near $1,800.

Had a plastic fly wheel break off on an engine a few years back while I was 3+ miles offshore. BoatUS was out there in a half hour. Guy guided me back in through the inlet with big rollers and the admiral quite nervous. Total pro. Have since used them a few other times for minor things. So I have more than broke even on the expense. But for me, the peace of mind and assistance more than pays for itself.

As said before, Red or Yellow, they are always there. You wouldn't believe how many times they are first on scene at emergencies too. Boat flipped in Jones Beach inlet yesterday. BoatUS was first on scene. Got a chance to see the big Coast Guard silver monster out of Short Beach at the scene as well. Very cool.

I have towing insurance on my regular policy. Less than a quarter the price and I can call red or yellow whoever is quicker. Only downside is I have to front the money.

Rob,
Now that's funny...once...also saves on all that pesky gas running your own engine(s)...

Joe Shoes,
Seat Tow was $149 and was recently upped to $169. I don't know what Boat US is.

I've used Sea Tow twice and both times they were close to useless. The last time I asked for assistance docking due to loss of a shaft/prop. The guy did more damage to my boat then I could have done by myself. I was better off once he disconnected. Needless to say, no tip for that tow. These guys have a tough job but damn, bring out the bigger boat for bigger boats! Sea Tow Montauk, you know what I'm talking about. Found all the yellow marks on the hull as I was cleaning her up today. Thanks for the gouges.

I have free towing on my policy too but I still prefer to be a member. I think members may get preferential treatment but not sure.

John, what happened? Did you hit something? Were your nuts tight?
