although my boat is all fiberglass, the transom door is apparently made of aluminum. i don't think it's been repainted or maintained in any way over the years and now the paint is flaking off it pretty badly. i removed the door the other day and brought it to an auto shop to see what they would charge to strip, prime and repaint it. i was quoted a price of $200, which is much more than i expected. what's worse is that the owner said the paint is flaking because the aluminum is starting to corrode from the inside out. he said he could not guarantee the paint would last for more than one or two seasons. has anyone else had this problem? if so, what did you do to resolve it? btw, the boat spent it's entire life in salt water. the first 11 years were in the pacific northwest and last season on the east coast.
