We did end up going up to Haverstraw from Staten Island for a 1 day cruise & back. On the way up we saw the Helicopter rescue with Police, fire & USCG bosts, cranes, all trying to help? On the wat back we were doing about 24 knots when the USCG Sirens Blaring came alongside & ordered us to stop! They said "The River was closed." I enquired further & they did say it wouldn't be too much longer? I guess they not only still had divers down but were also looking for bodies? Within 30 minutes they opened a slow (no wake) transit channel off the NY Side. Boats were stacked up pretty thick for a while. I had never seen the River Closed Before?

We were stuck between Newburgh and Pougkeepsie in 1999 when we were coming back from the vacation from h3ll. We went by the tug near Chealsea as the police told him if he did not stop they were going to take the tug by force. I should have taken pix of the anchor chain.

I'm not arguing that point hopefully no one got that impression. When they close the river on us there was a natural gas geyser just north of the railroad bridge. All it would have taken was one spark and we didn't want it coming from us!
