We did end up going up to Haverstraw from Staten Island for a 1 day cruise & back. On the way up we saw the Helicopter rescue with Police, fire & USCG bosts, cranes, all trying to help? On the wat back we were doing about 24 knots when the USCG Sirens Blaring came alongside & ordered us to stop! They said "The River was closed." I enquired further & they did say it wouldn't be too much longer? I guess they not only still had divers down but were also looking for bodies? Within 30 minutes they opened a slow (no wake) transit channel off the NY Side. Boats were stacked up pretty thick for a while. I had never seen the River Closed Before?

Sounds reasonable to me ... diver and rescue on scene ... 9 bodies in the a water ... the last thing they need is a bunch of pleasure boats going by.

I'm not arguing that point hopefully no one got that impression. When they close the river on us there was a natural gas geyser just north of the railroad bridge. All it would have taken was one spark and we didn't want it coming from us!

The video I saw yesterday showed a ferry and a pretty large Sea Ray blasting by the recovery boats, both throwing off large wakes.
