The Marine Police are out in full force at Indian Point - stopping EVERY boat and harassing the boaters.

Word has it they gave a ticket to someone because their life jackets "were not readily accessible".

I just don't understand these "shows of force". How does this make the water a safer place? I guess they need to justify their existence somehow.

Every boat, jetski, kayak or low flying plane that was in the area was stopped and boarded.

What about canoes, submarines, and pirate ships?

They are running back and forth in Haverstraw bay...Not getting by without a check...

Doesn't sound like a fund raiser but I hope they are not acting on a tip of trouble coming.
I would of like to see them stop the low flying plane would be funny to watch.

I don't understand the every boat thing. Nothing to hide but why go out if you know the first 30-40 minutes will be a boarding?

What a royal pain in the ass!

This happens every year around this time of year...As long as they are professional it is not as bad but some of them think they are the rulers of the river....

My memory must be slipping Butch. How log do they keep it up like this?

Took a run up past BMB on Wednesday morning and just north of the bridge a big 60'+ cruiser was sitting crossways in the river with two police boats by its side. Ran about a mile further north and then headed back down and they were all still there right in the middle of the river. Don't think the cruiser was in distress, so it must have been a safety check stop. Surprised they didn't get me since I was the only other boat around at the time.

I guess they have nothing better to do than hassel people out for a ride, I hope it's not going to be like that all season.

With State Budgets in the minus zone....it's a great revenue builder.
Here in NYS the State Surcharges are usually more than the fines.

I try to be on the up and up so I cannot get written up. When I had my offshore fishing
boat, I got stopped a lot more than after I bought the Chris Craft. I have been stopped
twice in 3 years, on the same day, by the same La. Wildlife and Fisheries boat. They
stopped and checked me on the way out of Contraband Bayou, then 30 minutes later when
I was coming back in due to bad weather. Same guys, same boat, same location. But
everything was legal. They only checked for registration, life jackets(I was wearing
an inflatable) and I was the only one on the boat, flares and throw cushion/ring.

Usually a week or 2. Where you with us when they boarded the raftups in bowline several years ago? WE also where stopped going to kingston last year. They had the whole river shut down in poughkeepsie. Same type of ticket blitz.

We had 2 boats stopped yesterday, quick stops and very courteous. One boater did get a repair ticket for not having flares on board. Send ticket and receipt in to drop ticket. Quess it depends on who stops you and your attitude when they stop you.

I remember the bowline inspection that year, if I remember we were all getting ready to eat dinner when they boarded us.

Was there, passed with flying colors, dinner was cold. Bah humbug!

Funny, but bowline pond isn't even really part of the waterway and being on the hook just made it easier for them. 6 boats at a pop!

We trailer our boat to florida in the winter and usually get stopped 3 or 4 times over the 2 months we are there. Sometimes by the Florida Wildlife Patrol checking fishing licenses, which we have, to the Coast Guard checking everything but fishing licenses. They always want to look into the small cuddy cabin. I figured they are looking for drugs, explosives, or illegal aliens neither of which they found so far. They usually pick boats with out of state registration like ours. The Coast Guard radios in our license also. I guess they are protecting society. It's annoying but it's the price we pay to live in a free country.

We had some guests up from the city so we took a slow cruise by Hook Mtn. USCG boarded us on the way back. Not only were they very professional and courteous, they were great with the kids and even took pictures with them. We had a perfect inspection. They were on and off in under 5 minutes. I was just disappointed I did not get a USCG lolly pop after the inpection. In fact the inspecting officer made us continue on an idle becuase he gets sea sick when the boat is not moving. TRUTH !!!!! If you don't believe me ask Erika.

I went to the Bistro at Viking to pickup some food last night and the parking lot had six unmarked police cars parked there. I believe these where some of the law enforcement that where out there this weekend. There probably preparing for next weekend.
