Okay, the stock market tanked, oil is all over the place, the world is coming to an end, and insanity has taken hold in Washington...
Big deal. I had the pleasure of taking my son and his friend out on the Glastron today, and we cruised the Hudson for a spell (the water was like glass) and since we had lashed our bicycles to the boat, we put in at Norrie Point, had lunch, and rode up to the Mills Mansion and some other spots on the bikes...
Plus, the boys made a few friends among the neighborhood kids in Staatsburg (they're all about the same age, 9-10) and so they had some fun together riding bikes and working together to build a rickety bridge across a stream using fallen (dead) trees. It was fun to see these kids, literally from two different sides of the tracks (if you know what I mean) having a good time together. One of the boys even showed us where there was a shortcut uphill to Route 9 and a good deli (man that hill was steep!) where we could get some refreshments and ice cream. Of course I treated everybody...
Then, on the way back, we put into Rosita's and had dinner, then up the Rondout in the dark back to the dock. We just got home a little while ago. I spent a good hundred bucks on the day, perhaps more, but it was priceless to see how these kids played together and teamed up to work on a challenge. I dare say it was a great learning experience for my rather pampered son and his equally fortunate friend. I'll post some pics once I get a chance...
