Wow, clear skies, sunny 80's, it doesn't get much better than that!
We ended in Bowline, along with at least 100 other boats, it was a MOB scene, we rafted 10 boats closest to the north shore, behind us was a raft-up of 14 - 17 boats from Haverstraw, behind them was a raft-up of about 20 boats, and scattered raft-ups of 3 - 6 boats were all over the place.
The bane of Bowline, getting your anchor to hold, was evident all weekend. The two rafts behind us had problems all day Sunday, almost drifting into one another. Other rafts were seen drifting across the pond.
We held fine until about 2AM when our stern anchors stopped holding. We tried for an hour to re-set, with no luck, so at 3 AM, we broke up and headed back to PBM, I towed my dink, my son drove our jet boat, and others either towed or drove their jet skies back.
As soon as we got into the river - BTW, it ain't fun pulling out of Bowline at 3 AM with no moonlight, trying to navigate the channel - the water was like glass. Back at the marina, there was no wind! We were all safe back in our slips by 4 AM.
The lesson is to try to get a good bite on your anchor, but NEVER believe you won't drag - it can happen to anyone, at anytime!
