Why to NOT Vote for Meg Whitman!

Fair enough. You might one of those I want to influence then. LOL The only thing on your partial list I eat is cheese. I'm allergic to sugar and alcohol, so I avoid those completely!

I have no vote there, but want to see all of my growers get a fair shake at making a living and supplying the country with some of the best produce grown in the US. America forgets that California grows the most fruit and produce, Florida is next.

I would hate to see us have to continue to import more and more food that should be grown right here in the USA.

Liz - With any luck most of those democrats will get voted out as well.

Wayne - Our republican governor has been stonewalled at nearly every attempt to control spending.

Charlie - He lived in an apartment but did he still draw his salary? Conversely our current Governor lives in his own house pays for his private plan, collects no salary but does stay at a state sponsored hotel. Looking at Browns and Whitman's current digs I don't think they will move into the Governor's mansion either.

To whoever wants to comment: How has Whitman run a dirty campaign? And for the record Ebay is not a little community organization program and I would be willing to be nearly everyone criticizing her voted for our current president when he had a whole lot less experience. About the fact that she does not have much of a voting record... At least she can prove (or is willing) she is a citizen.

I am with Robyn and Pascal. Water is for a lot more things than just boating or fishing on. Importing fruits and vegetables so we can have pristine freshwater boating in a delta that could be fed by saltwater is nuts. No reason to squander the water but lets keep the bigger picture of the greater need of the state economy in mind.

We import fruits and vegs from mexico and S America when they are out of season here.

As I mentioned in another thread, the whole length of I 5 is lined with almond groves. Not too long ago they were lined with olive groves. That's agri-business for ya. You call that food stuff or business opportunists.

Like Liz, I could care less what political party wins, it's what they do with it.

I'm not sure how it is now but not long ago, the growers were paying pennies per acre FOOT of water while we in the north were and still are rationing on drought protocols. S. Ca was building golf courses and filling man-made lakes. I've averaged under 75 gal/day for the last 25 years. I haven't taken a boat to the Delta in over 40 years but I've been fishing for the fish that migrate thru the Delta for over almost 60 years.

I have a big stake in how the water of Northern California is used.

From Tracy to 198 I see Orange Groves, Walnut Groves and a whole lot of Grapes. 198 over to hanford and Vislia more tomatoes than you can shake a stick at. Around Vacaville a ton of corn, up 113 across 5 and over to 99 enough rice patties to look like Vietnam. Of course there is Orange, CA with all of the oranges it grows. All of the crops will change from time to time as the same crops year after year will reduce the yield because of the reduction of natural elements needed for that crop. For example, recently I have seen a number of sunflower fields in places I have not seen them before. Add to that dairy farms and beef herds. I could go on but it is quite apparent that there are two sides to the double headed coin and the only way your going to get them to see eye to eye is to melt it down and make a new one.

Charlie is your fishing recreational or for profit?

Oh great. A birther. You just lost all credibility. Obama is a citizen and president of the us.

My point is this. Republicans have brought both harm and shame to this country. My personal challenge is to try to respect those who support their cause. I fail most of the time. Republicans are wrong for this country on so many levels

I just cAn't understand how someone can be a republican and call themselves a patriot at the same time

Birther?? Hardly. Lost all credibility? With who? You? A citizen? Can you prove that statement? I am not saying his is or isn't. However, if asked I can produce a birth certificate with a seal from the state I was born in. Can he? Maybe, maybe not. He refuses to address it. I would think if he could he would have. At any rate there is so much more wrong with the man and his politics that is really the least of our problems.

Are you serious about the Republican and being a patriot? And more importantly are you questioning my patriotism? Because if you are you really know nothing about me or what a patriot is.

Since you want to take this discussion only on a level of Republican vs. Democrat find me in NBR. Bring with you some stats on the harm caused by Republicans and why they are wrong for this country. Also bring along some stats or anything for that matter that shows anything good the current administration has done for this country.

Lastly maybe look up what a patriot is. Because you surely are clueless.

You need stats for me to prove the harm the repubs have caused?! Are you serious? When Obama took office from 8 yrs of bush the country was in fro fall. Over 8 yrs of bush none of the problems facing this country were resolved. Healthcare, immigration, wars, debt, education. 8 yrs of absolutely no progress and decline. You need stats? Why not just loom around. They were I. Charge when the country fell and somehow you think they a rent responsible

Couldn't resist. Even though I am serious about this, it will appear to be a "on-line troll bait" but that is how it goes.

I just think that is is dumb to try to grow water hungry crops in a desert. We end up transporting these goods anyway, so grow them where they "want" to grow.

As for politics, sadly, politicians usually sell out to the highest bidder.

Good luck Liz et al. I hope you can save your delta.

Now everyone without an anchor is getting a sense of the NBR forum. Kind of like a free sample...

Boating is much more interesting to discuss; although, this it getting fairly interesting. I don't really care which party is in office, I would just like to see someone in office that can start to turn this state in the right direction and have some sense on how to create jobs (new gov't jobs don't count) and not only attract employers to California but also keep companies that are currently here from leaving. Simply raising taxes will not solve any long term problems and certainly won't get more people back to work. Unfortunately no significant improvements will happen in two years no matter who is elected but someone needs to point the ship in the right direction.

Jim,
Most of those areas you speak of are in Northern Ca.

Haven't been up and down 99 around Visalia since the 70's/80's, but they were mostly orange groves along the eastern side. Didn't pay much attention to Hanford back then but we had a few runs down there. Too friggin' hot for bikes.

I fish for pleasure. Been fishing for Stripers since the 50's. Just got into salmon about '90 with a 20'er to get out the gate. Halibut the same time. Quit fishing for Sturgeon mid 90's, got more 'n my share.

That's okay Wayne. You just keep watching KTVU and memorize those talking points. No need to look at when the current problems actually started or what the cause was. You have your scapegoat. Again, bring it to NBR because I am done with you on this here.

Charlie - It is John not Jim. Sorry I should have that in my tagline or something. Most all of the areas I speak of are south of the Delta. 113 is barely north of Sac. However, there are a ton of farms up there too. They draw their water off the reservoirs. Lakes that would normally feed the delta. So to be fair about it you do need to include them with the central valley farmers in those who use the water. In the central valley along CA produces about 80% of the broccoli consumed in the U.S. and about 60% of the spinach.

You GTBSM!!!

Our deficit for the one month of July 2010 was greater than the combined deficits of 8 years of Bush.

Please try and refute that one.

I wish everyone would stick to the topic of California water and the delta. And which candidates will support which side. Let's take the bigger issue of political parties and national policies over NBR please. Otherwise, I'll request that this topic be locked......

Thanks everyone.

Wayne can't take it to NBR, as he doesn't have an anchor. Like all libs he probably wants someone else to pay for it! (sorry, couldn't resist - I'll shut up now).

Liz, I agree the water issue is huge .... HUGE, but it's not the ONLY problem facing CA. I think we need to keep all the issues in mind and, yes, since this started as a why not to vote type of thing - thus political in nature - it probably should be locked and taken to NBR.

Hi all,

I'll have to decline your support for the governorship. Afraid my libertarian and pro-death penalty stances would alienate me from the majority of voters. This topic has deteriorated somewhat and should be taken to NBR so I'm going to go ahead and lock it, but I have to ask ................. what does GTBSM stand for? Feel free to pm the answer to me if it is too politically incorrect for this forum.
