Boat explosion in Connelley

Laura, So sorry to hear about the issues with your boat! I wish you and your family a full recovery. I am a marine surveyor in the Hudsonvalley area and was wondering when the last time your boat was surveyed? A full safety inspection should have been performed to items that are ignition protected. I was hoping you could share this information with us. Thank you for any information you can give us. Al

Al, do I take it from the above that surveyors are utilized by boat owners as a resource for checking on the condition of their current boats? Meaning even when its not for sale, just to see how things are doing???

Pete,

People have inspections done for many reasons other then a pre-purchase. Its always a good idear to have a vessel checked out at least every three to five years. Most insurance companys have already made that a standard now a days. A coast guard safety inspection is also a good way to go and it is free.

Pete one other surveyor we dealt with when we were rammed on Great South Bay said that he never ordered a survey or short haul that didn't find a problem.
We were glad we were hauled. He found a serious issue with a shaft and put our minds at ease regarding the structural integrity of the boat.
