Hello all.
My 2001 Carver 356 is in need of some new areas of pin striping just above the waterline, mainly from damage from docks and waxing. There is a black stripe and a gold stripe. Does anyone know if I can get these colours through my Carver dealer or any other retailer? I only want to replace the sections that are damaged, so I would require a match in colour, size and style. Any help would be appreciated.
Trevor

Trevor, I have the same need. I would love to know what you find. Thanks John

ordered mine thru a big box marine store, matching up the gold will be hard, I re-did mine.

You can still get it through your Carver dealer. It is a "group" stripe with each color being correctly spaced and a match in color. You just need to measure it's full width and let your dealer know what that is. Even though we are no longer a Carver dealer, we have so many out there that we still stock the stripes that Carver still has available.

Mine is messed up too. Why do they even put this stuff on boats?
John, I will split the cost with you if we can get a good sized roll, I probably need about 15 to 20 feet total.

I went the other route years ago with 3M striping and changed the colors.

I originally had a bright blue and grey group of striping on the boat, then changed to gold and navy and now kept the navy but ditched the gold and went with a silver. It really updated the boat a lot. I did the entire boat for less than $200 and have extra should I ever need a touch up. Might be worth a look into, a friend of mine basically just ditched the gold strip on his 2001 356 and replaced it with silver.

370 MY...that looks spectacular! Nice work. I will definitely keep that in mind to do. How much work was it to get all the old striping off? I am trying to get a price from my local Carver dealer for original. I will let you all know how I make out.

It was very easy actually, a heat gun did the job beautifully. After I cleaned the area with acetone, then started installing the new stripes. There will be a pretty visible line where the old stuff was, so its very easy to get it lined up. The waterline took about an hour to remove all the old stuff and clean it, the new stuff went on in a little less than an hour.

Vtboater, I'm in. I only need a few feet where the fenders rubbed form the previous owners dock. The new set up is not an issue. I would like to get it sooner than later so we can match the new graphic colors for the name change. You can email or call to coordinate. John

+ 1 on the greatlakesskipper. They have a huge collection of discontinued striping in their warehouse. I know another large boating store carries basic black and blue striping, but Great Lakes Skipper has all sorts of different colors...

Striping is pretty easy to take off, heat the area of the stripe up with a heat gun (careful not to burn it though) and it pulls off with your fingers. I also picked up some plastic razor blades that won't scrape the fiber glass for the tough to get off pieces. Then Acetone to get the remaining sticky stuff off. Once I put the stripe back on, let it sit for a day or two, I think it is temperature dependent too, or it won't stay stuck. The I waxed over the top to give a nice seal on it.

I got an email back from my local Carver dealer.
8130121 Carver striping large...$5.69 per foot. In stock at Crates Marine in Keswick, Ontario.
Not cheap! I think I may go with remove all and replace with generic stripes
Trevor

If you do replace the striping, make sure you go with the 3M striping tape. I have noticed it is a lot thicker than the generic stuff found at most boating stores.

I had the same problem on my 325, finding the OEM stripe. I called at least 6 different Carver dealers to find NONE of them willing to even try to help me. I called the factory and found someone helpful, refreshing for sure. I told them I was unable to find a dealer that would even attempt to help me. Carver (Marquis Yachts) had the strip in stock, in bulk. All he wanted to know was "how many feet do you want?" I had it 3 days later, exact fit/match. Sorry, I don't remember the price, but I do remember being surprised at the LOW price.

You couldn't have called the dealership I work for near Cleveland. We have it in stock and never dismiss a request for Carver items. (even though we aren't a dealer any longer, we still deal with Carver/Marquis)

Striping will be available for as long as Carver deems there is enough demand. All that is available now is the most recent Black/Gold. Carver stopped using tape striping in 2008 and went to painted boot stripes. Trim striping is still tape but they have several colors available.

You are correct, I did not check Cleveland. I live in Minnesota, so checked here, and expanded my search within the 5 state area, working east to Lake Michigan, Wisconsin and Michigan. The dealers, listed as Carver dealers, would not even try, told me my boat was too old, etc.. The issue was poor/zero customer service. If you have it in Cleveland that is good to know, as well as the perception that from this dialogue you indeed provide customer service. Hats off to you, keep up the good work, and I would be happy to call your dealer in the future.

Hey, Guys-

Making progress but I can't seem to get rid of the striping "shadows" on the boat. I was hoping to eliminate the waterline striping but may have to re-stripe. Question: Should I get a little more aggressive with my wet-sanding to try and get out the shadows or just punt and re-stripe? I can't seem to find the replacement stripe at the waterline anywhere. Any ideas?

Doug,
It will not help by getting more aggressive with buffing the existing boot stripes. That is the color of the hull. The rest of the boat has faded. The only solution is leave the stripes off and in time it will fade, however it will never match the existing hull color.

Restripping is your best solution.
