The first time I went to the Channel Club about 3 or so years ago, I was arriving on a very busy Saturday afternoon in late July.As I approached the Seabright Bridge with an inbound current pushing me along (no wake of coarse) i noticed the bridge beginning to open and a huge sportfish coming through (it was "Tar Heel" the owner of the Channel Club). I was in a line of about a half dozen boats waiting for Tar Heel to pass when a NJ State Marine Police boat pulls up next to me from behind and starts SCREAMING at me to slow down!In the mean time, there are dozens of small go fast boats haulin' a$$ on the outside of the channel markers right next to the officer! Mind you, I had a 4 knot current (as you all know)pushing me in, I actually had to put the boat in reverse to keep the boat steady while I got reemed out by this fine officer! My wife and I were absolutly stunned and the only thing we could think of why he picked on us and none of the other 6 boats was he saw the NY hailing port on my transom as he approached. When I looked in front of me, the guy in the next boat had his hands up as if to say WTF as he laughed! After a couple of days we got to know some people and I asked one about the disreguard of the no wake rule and he said it's an un written rule that if your out of the channel, the no wake rule doesn't apply!I wonder if it would have applied to me if I tried? Anyway, I'm heading down on Monday and I can't wait!
