Channel Club

Chris depending on the wind it's not unusual for us to "lean" on a piling going in and out of there. Can you spell SKKKAAAAWWWWEEEEAAAAAAKKKKKK/

Walshie, we did not leave until around 2:30 as we hit the beach for a while and then got gas. May as well load up at that price. Due to the outboards across from us sticking about 6 or 8 feet past the pilings I opted to put the bow down where you were docked and back out. With the wind blowing as it was I was worried that i might be blown into those props as I tried to swing to port. You know that they would win the fight with my gel coat. It was a great ride home except for the damn ferries in the NY harbor, and the Jefferson Motoryacht that blew past us in the no wake zone heading out. It was great to meet you Chris, you are the second BoaterEd person we have had the pleasure to meet. And that makes it 2 for 2 with meeting nice people Only a few more days till the weekend..... :--)))

Yep, good call backing out. I would have done that if I could but as you know I was pinned against the bulkhead. The best I could do is lay against the pilings across from me then do my best to swing my bow out enough to clear....those damn props!! A little swing, a burst of power and we were clear. BTW, I saw that Jefferson in lower NY bay as we were headed north. I remember because a guy I work withi here has one.

WTF is it with ignoring the no wake zone? We were talking about this during the weekend, it seems only us tourists obey the no wake. Why is that? Sooo many local boats were blowing right by us. I also noticed this behaviour the last time I was in Barneget Bay. No wakes are totally ignored....WTF? G-damn Jersey Drivers.

I understand that the smaller boats can get up on plane outside the channel if you have the local knowledge. However both of us traveling made the decision to obay the rules and stay safe in the channel at 5 - 6 MPH with no wake. This M/Y came up on to my stern and blew past both of us displacing a ton of water passing within 8-10 feet of my port side. What a jerk.

Now it is good that the NJ site is not that active or you would catch some grief about the Jersey drivers comments....

The first time I went to the Channel Club about 3 or so years ago, I was arriving on a very busy Saturday afternoon in late July.As I approached the Seabright Bridge with an inbound current pushing me along (no wake of coarse) i noticed the bridge beginning to open and a huge sportfish coming through (it was "Tar Heel" the owner of the Channel Club). I was in a line of about a half dozen boats waiting for Tar Heel to pass when a NJ State Marine Police boat pulls up next to me from behind and starts SCREAMING at me to slow down!In the mean time, there are dozens of small go fast boats haulin' a$$ on the outside of the channel markers right next to the officer! Mind you, I had a 4 knot current (as you all know)pushing me in, I actually had to put the boat in reverse to keep the boat steady while I got reemed out by this fine officer! My wife and I were absolutly stunned and the only thing we could think of why he picked on us and none of the other 6 boats was he saw the NY hailing port on my transom as he approached. When I looked in front of me, the guy in the next boat had his hands up as if to say WTF as he laughed! After a couple of days we got to know some people and I asked one about the disreguard of the no wake rule and he said it's an un written rule that if your out of the channel, the no wake rule doesn't apply!I wonder if it would have applied to me if I tried? Anyway, I'm heading down on Monday and I can't wait!

You are not a local and thus subject to a different set of rules. Been there done that.

Anyone heading down saturday? We are hoping to leave as close to noon as possible.

Anyone looking for the dolphins they have moved from the Shrewsbury to the Navesink, right by the Oceanic Bridge. Take a look at the charts for the Navesink, not a low tide run for boats that draw much over 3 feet.

We got a late start, but we made it down here around 5pm. The expected bumps around the statue of liberty weren't too bad. I can see how the channels can get confusing with markers everywhere. the no wake was welcomed by the admirals, and the snacks and cocktails helped. we had a great night at sally tees and the people are very nice. We passed by Robyns Nest as we were walking around the docks, but no one was home. fantastic day all in, hope to upoad some pics this week.

We were in slip D7, closer to the pool. We had a blast, everyone there is very nice. We didn't risk it on Sunday and got out of there around 10:30. It would've been great to spend the day, but the storms pushed us. They will be seeing us again soon according to the admiral.

Tony

We left at 11:10 and made the 11:30 bridge same reason.

We're going back in 2 weeks.

Just received word. The Channel Club is sold out for the weekend of Aug 16/17. I'm on a waiting list. Anyone cancelling? We'd like to go...

Thanks

Looks like a nice place to go. Any low bridges to contend with on the way down?

Thanks Walshie, I just called Chuck the Dock Master. He's checking. Walshie, please compare to The Channel Club for us. I know the following, next door, have a pool (is it nice) and non-floatable docks... They allow BBQing on the grounds. What else....?

I've never been to Atlantis, only walked my dog past there a few weeks ago. I'm not sure if they have a pool and what the grilling rules are. However, they are the same distance to Sally-Tees and the Ocean.

We just want to be entertained by the ocean a few more times before... you know....

Atlantis is nice too. Great pool, club house, nice clean, well maintained safe docks........
