While I have not had any updates regarding tangible results, I was told by one of the victims that the USCG has confirmed that there is a case file and they have officers investigating the incident. Others have contacted police in the Newport, RI area to try and get things done as well. There are phone calls, emails, and PM's being made as people try to help.
...It would just be nice to see some kind of report indicating that a law enforcement officer of some sort has met face-to-face with the boats' owner. Then we would know things are on the right track. It appears that many of the victims do not frequent the forums where there are posts about this, or are keeping quiet at the request of the authorities. I'd still like to see a media story about this. Each time I speak with my friends who were there, it sounds increasingly scary.

There has been some communications which indicate that the owners of the vessel are in reality "stand-up" people, and may not be aware of what has happened. While this avenue is being pursued, I ask that everyone refrain from any further saber-rattling and/or conjecture. Maybe this can be settled appropriately after all. Thanks!We were the recipients of a large wake from a 40' sport fisher which came within 20' as we entered the Manasquan Inlet last month. Our 17,000 pound boat was turned sideways and I was helpless as we bobbled in the water. Luckily there was nobody next to us and we did not wash up onto the rocks.
The good news, the USCG saw the whole thing and stopped the guy. The bad news, they "talked to him", didn't board him, didn't exchange papers, nothing. I asked the CG "what happened" and they said "they talked to him", I said "talked to him, that's it, he could have killed someone", they responded "we talked to him". Man, was I pissed, I had the USCG right there, I figured the least they could do was break his chops but NOPE!! Nothing!!
As a matter of coincidence, two boats collided hours later in this area and a young man was killed. I lost some respect for the USCG that day.

A friend of the owner, who contacted me directly, and requested anonymity. I have no reason to doubt him.
I was boating all weekend, and spoke with three people who were in the basin at the time and filed reports. They had not been contacted by the Maryland DNR as of Friday afternoon.
My friends have been contacted by representatives of the owner regarding the damages to their boats. I will leave it to them to provide further details if they wish. I do not have any information regarding any other actions that might be taken against the vessel, its owner, or its operator.
So if the owner is such a stand up person, what is he doing, if anything, about his employee, the captain. Do we worry if we see this boat coming at us or has he been terminated? What if anything is being done to the captain by the authorities?
As boaters, this is not just idle curiosity, we do have a need to know.
