We were the recipients of a large wake from a 40' sport fisher which came within 20' as we entered the Manasquan Inlet last month. Our 17,000 pound boat was turned sideways and I was helpless as we bobbled in the water. Luckily there was nobody next to us and we did not wash up onto the rocks.
The good news, the USCG saw the whole thing and stopped the guy. The bad news, they "talked to him", didn't board him, didn't exchange papers, nothing. I asked the CG "what happened" and they said "they talked to him", I said "talked to him, that's it, he could have killed someone", they responded "we talked to him". Man, was I pissed, I had the USCG right there, I figured the least they could do was break his chops but NOPE!! Nothing!!
As a matter of coincidence, two boats collided hours later in this area and a young man was killed. I lost some respect for the USCG that day.
