Walter, yes, heading over solo tomorrow. Gema, who you met at the AYC D dock party, may be coming out Saturday but not sure yet, she often gets stuck working until late afternoon Saturday and ferries are pretty limited at this time, so good chance I'll be on my own for the full weekend.

Probably zero unless someone backs out. This weekend is the Friends of Watch Hill end of season Columbus Day event and members are able to reserve slips for Friday/Saturday night in advance. The big slips usually fill up.
If I bail, would be 100 percent. If I do bail, I will also give you my paid gig for the restaurant. I didn't go to the meeting, but heard some of the dirt.
Before I start rumours can someone who did go, spell it out here?
I heard there is a pretty good shot that Watch Hill won't be open part of next season?
Also for everyone, check out the pics between the bathroom's in the restaurant.

Did you know that watch hill was not water at all?
It was a small tributary with a bunch of houses.
The houses, one of which was Johnny Carson's were bought out.
They built all the docks then dredged the land to let the water fill in.
There is a great pic of C/D pier with land on both sides of it!

Per the meeting.
Very important - very few things will be modified as their funding mandates that everything be restored to its present configuration. Therefore, electric will remain the same except for D land where all poles will get 50/250 option. Poles will be put in the same locations and adapters will still be required. Electrification of day slips is a dead issue.
The dredging will take place between Oct and December as it can't be done at any other time due to the DEC enviro nit wits. It will include the channel and the basin. Depending on the contractor selected, they will either pull the poles or dredge with them in place.
The Sandy money must be spent by Dec 31, 2015. They are waiting on funds to cover replacing the bulkheads which she stated was several million dollars. This requires inclusion in the next continuing resolution as the feds have not had a budget for several years. Once it is funded, they can go out for bid. The bid time frame is 60 days. The time allotted for construction is 152 days. Therefore, we have a 7+ month process from the time they get the funding approved.
So if the funds are available in January, the bids take place Jan-Feb and the construction takes place March - July. That is the best case and we are talking about the federal government here.
I would say the entire 2015 season is in doubt.

I believe they did say that if the work were delayed and would not start until later, they would open the marina in spring and shut it down when the work begins.
Well good news and bad news I guess?
Closing the place down for the 2015 season is a real bummer, especially to the concessionaire, wonder how thats gonna work out??? Guess the good news is the place will be solid after this for many years to come.
Seems pretty silly to me though that they would dredge the slips, then do the seawalls after the dredging. I would think it should be the other way around, am I wrong?
Bottom line, the work needs to be done to preserve the place, thinking we should all be grateful it will happen.

Good point Walter, at some point it has to be done, so now is the time to do it if they have the federal money. I didn't go there in 2013 and survived, so if we lose a season at WH there are other things to do and places to go!

No expert at dredging but would it make sense to damn the entrance and drain the basin, then dredge?

In answer to your question, the funding is to restore, not improve. hence, no upgrades to the power poles. PS, those poles are not cheap, figure without labor $1,700,00 per pole. Same reason for not moving the poles, "restore" not "upgrade"
Now if the concessionaire was smart, and felt that moving the poles would earn him more money, now would be the time to have this done and he pays the additional money for such. I don't pretend to know the business there, so what seems to be a "no brainer" to us, just might not be the case.
