Numerous boats on fire...north end Haverstraw

Dave, how many boats have caught fire at the Haverstraw and Stony Point marinas?

Of those, how many have been for sale for several years?

Of those, how many had the crew abandon ship due to lack of payment?

Just askin....

It's not common but accidents do happen. I didn't plan to blow up my jetski but sometimes things happen. This would not be the first boat fire to go unexplained. I have never met the owner and know very little about him but I would like to at least gave him the benefit of doubt that he had nothing to do with this, at least until someone proves otherwise.

+1

I wonder why the police are calling it "suspicious"??? Maybe they know something that we have posted here...

Im pretty sure any fire that happens early morning, that is as bad as this one was, is considered suspicious. Especially when the owner isnt even on the boat..

If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.

They have the hull about half way floated and are still pumping her out. I woder if the investigation will take place at the slip or will they move her elsewhere. This may be our biggest entertainment of the weekend...I don't think I'm going out.

I doubt they will find much to blame given how far it burned and that it was submerged. Accelerants if used are gone and would be masked by all the fuel/oil/paint/gel coat anyway. Electrical issues are all gone with the above water line burning down.
No way anyone goes down even if they are dirty unless; they opened their yaps and spilled it, they have credit card reciepts indicating foul play, or witnesses.

Bottomline, if someone did it, they can find out. Follow the money trail.
Talk to the crew.
As soon as the crew says they haven't been paid, every crew member will be a suspect.
I bet the owner is not guilty and it was one of the crew.
That is the real crime, the owner will get his money and the "crew" will add a "S" to the front and "ED" to the rear of their title!

They were there (scr3wed) already so no difference except the satasfaction of revenge if that is the case.

Smaller boat raised over the weekend, huge crane coming in today to try to raise On Your Mark.

Interesting that Haverstraw Marina will bear the cost of raising the vessel. Betcha' this will be reflected in next years slip fees.

Pete, either Haverstraw's or the boat owner's insurance company will end up paying for it. It won't come out of the marina's pocket.

I would have thought a boat like that would have had built in surge suppression. By the way, glad I installed a whole house surge protector before the power started blipping due to Irene.

Didn't the marina shut the power off for Irene?
Not sure how a marina surge or something did this?
A multi million dollar boat has no protection agains this?
I think one of his go-go lights shorted and fell on the leopard couch and ignited the gallon of gasoline on there!!

What's interesting is that not one single other boat on that side of the marina caught on fire as a result of a "power surge".

How would the owner know what caused the fire?
