SAD............

They say there were 1,000 boats at the show !.........

Another factor with that many people is watching the show. He probably was turning boat so people could see the show better. At the same time everyone ran to that side to see the show. 27 people suddenly shift from one side to another while in a turn and you can easily flip. If the wave or wake also hit them then add that in. Either way it was a overload issue.

Come on Don, what the hell difference does it make whether the guy had a license or not.

The kids are still gone...and he will have to live with that.

'The yacht company filed for bankruptcy in April' silverton is in receiver-ship?

And Cusomano said only 8 is prudent on board for a boat that sleeps 6? It's a shame, all the dumb coverage that happens after a ghastly tragedy like this. Peace to the survivors.

Talked to a guy on scene. Said weather was a factor after boat capsized. Drew the boat out quickly. Also said wake bounced boat into an uncontrollable state as it left the area. Said life jackets would not have mattered. I totally agree captain should have been under trying to open the cabin for those poor kids. This is all so very sad.

I hope they can track down the person who made the wake and prosecute him or her, but it's unlikely that they will be able to narrow it down since it was dark out.
I would be surprised if there weren't some kind of criminal charges against the operator of the boat that capsized. It would be a shame if he were the only one to have to answer for what happened.

Not for nothing, but the guy who was running the boat was a moron, plain and simple. How could you leave the dock with that many people on your boat? Oh well we arent going to go fast and we are only running out to the bay.

You cant fix stupidity

I agree. Especially since by all accounts he was an experienced skipper. He should have known better. Taking that many people out on a boat that size was reckless at the very least.

Something I was just looking at on my boat could of been a another factor here.
So how much weight would it take to push the waterline to a point where a thru hull is now under water.
I wonder if this boat was doomed when it left the dock wave or no wave.
If it was filling with water and he turned suddenly and all the water blasted to one side it would help capsize it.
Would also explain why it sunk so quickly.

Yes water sloshing in the bilge could have been a contributing factor. Why do so few boats out there have too few bilge pumps and most importantly no warning lights at the helm? Then how often does the owner actually check to see if the lights work?

But, if properly installed thru hulls should not let water in and there should be a rising loop to prevent syphoning... A good time to remind folks to check their thru hulls and discharges. Don't assume that dealers and yards do it right...

I bet when the float this boat they will but the 27 people of weight in it to see how it sits. That is 1 test I would do.

I have the same boat for seven years ask any questions you want.
Very sad and I agree captain / owner should not have left the dock with that many people on board.

Very tragic ! Responsibility lays directly to the feet of the captain ! Now there will law suits , tons of bull**** legislation all due to total stupidity !

Very sad

Rob

James Mercante, an attorney for the boat's owner, has insisted that overcrowding was not a cause of the accident

James u are an idiot ! how about 99% contributing factor .

Rob

Let's load 27 attorneys on the boat and make a sharp turn!

If you are smart and want to become a Lawyer I tell everyone they should become a Divorce Lawyer. With Gay marriage legalized the divorce rate will more than triple. Lots of business.

I don't know why someone can't just say there was to many people on the bridge and the boat operator turned to sharply. That could be the only explanation, what good will refloating that old boat proove. And, the law is a bit stupid, they can be in the cabin without floatation and only have to wear them while outside and under way... So much stupid to go around..
