Just received a notice club meeting March 19 CBYC. Special meeting about "Future of Club"
For all that will not attend such as I, Just refund out dues for this season, we will make our own fun.

With all the issues and crap going on there, I can't understand why anyone would keep their boat there. There are plenty of alternatives in the area.

They are stuck having given deposits back in October which are not refundable Mike. Then again they could use my process and just say something true about SPBM that Price doesn't want others to know and he'll "uninvite" you while refunding your money.

Thats exactly what we did. Had paid a "non-refundable" deposit, changed our mind and got a slip at other marina, opened up about what was going on and they "uninvited" us and returned our money. If Price was smart he would have did nothing and keep our deposit.

Wayne, I saw the meeting notice tacked up on the SPBM main sign by the road but it didn't say where the meeting was being held. Did Price unlock the clubhouse?

Your right John, it is the 18th We were mailed oa notice yesterday ( John, I just installed remote starter buttons on each engine, cool)

For me: SPBM have always treated me good. Any issues I have had over the years, they have taken care of. (Gean and Tony) The only comment now, is the dis-repair of the docks, sea wall and the low water. G dock is really falling apart. Last season my Wife tripped three times on nails comming out. At present the cost is in line with the services. I'm paying a total of $96.00 per foot. (If you add all fees and divide by footage) My opinion is (and we all know what opinions are like) if the fees rise with improved services that's good, increase fees with present services, they will be pricing themselves out of my pocket. Time will tell.
My take for the club: Refund my club dues, sink the club.
Friends, will make there own fun

I must agree with you Wayne we make our own fun. Since the docks are wood and not metal like Haverstraw (hot and loud) nails will pop. I have on many occasions taken my hammer and pounded back in a few nails on C Dock. This was done just to help out so my fellow boaters (and I) do not get hurt. We have the same problem with my deck at home. While in the past few years things have been swinging one way, it is my hope that they will turn around also and get better soon. The Sunday meeting should be interesting if not emotional for all that show up.

I believe if they do take away the club they must refund the dues as it is a detailed line item on our bill. Since I have not been to the club since the kids Christmas party, when was the building padlocked? And what were the reasons given for this????

The building was locked down sometime in Feb before the club meeting. The reason given was that the club sent out it's newsletter without having it approved by Bill Price. Seems he was not happy with the content of the newsletter in that it discussed the possible sale of the marina and the fact that the previous deal concerning the club and marina corporation had been put on hold. Sounds rather childish to me.

Of course the sale possibility was in the local newspapers shortly after this happened so it was not a hidden secret anyway.

SPBM is not the same without Gene. Therefor I would never go back there..

He was the face of SPBC for a long time. Sad as it is the last few years he was getting overruled my other factions in the ownership of the corporation. That is why he left. Tony is trying, but needs to get to know how to work with certain people. Boating used to help relieve my stress, now it just adds to it with the chance my marina may go away for a condo development. I have read about this going on in Florida for years, but now that it hits our home port......

Even the "dis-invited" are still on the mailing list! I got my meeting notice too!
As a small business myself, I'm constantly amazed. The owners at SPBM can complain that they're not making money...duh??? Did they ever hear of good public relations...working to boost the image? They seem to be going out of their way to drag it down.
Fate is funny...I'm lucky to have been dis-invited. I do not need this ajita to intrude on something that I love, need for relaxation...and for which I pay good money! SPBM seems to have a death wish. Reminds me of a company I deal with, who "grew" their business DOWN from $20 million to $10 million in 5 years, and then said they were trying to bring it down to a managable level.

Think Spring! Here's to a great season!

So who went to the meeting?

Was quite interesting....

I heard that the accounting of the club dues was "resolved". Always seemed strange that the club dues collected each year NEVER went to the club itself.

You will be happy to know that you will have plenty of BBQ grills and propane to operate them this year since the $54 you pay in dues goes for cleaning and maintaining the grills as well as refilling the propane tanks. Hell in all my years there I bet I haven't even used $10 worth of propane! "Costs a lot of money to load the tanks in a truck and bring them to be refilled"

I still haven't figured out the difference between the club dues and the facilities fees thou.

You won't have to worry about the newsletter causing any more lockouts at the clubhouse since all newsletters must first be censored proofread by Price personally.

Appears a deal to sell the place is pending as well, "non-disclosure agreements prevent us from talking about it"

Did you go to the meeting in disguise John?

$54 for the grills & propane???? For that money there should be 100 new grills a year!!!!

How many members??? 200 x $54 = $10,800

Isn't Wayne trying to buy it from them?

Jonathan

The way it was explained to me by one of the board members was the club dues goes for the expence of the clubhouse itself. That is why the marina gets it.
$13,500.00 per year for clubhouse expences?
Sounds like a lot for a broken down old barge. Take it down and than no more big expence. When the club wants to have a party, just rent a hall in Stony Point, I'll bet it will not come to $13,000.00 per year.................
The lock out was a Price blow up, which was explained to me as over. Till next time they said.

There was an owner at the meeting that explained the club fee's are used for the grills, propane and something about cleaning of the pavilions. The actual amount is more like $13.8K. So even if the club disbands, the corp will continue to charge/keep the "club dues". I got this directly from someone who was at the meeting.

The meeting was interesting to say the least. While several people insist they know for a fact that there is an offer on the table with 1/2 mil down, others state that the only part that is for sale is 4 shares, and all this sale stuff is doing is driving up the price of those shares. A lot of talk about the dues we pay going for grills, but nobody bought that BS. When Seeweed was there they only had 55 members and all the rest of us were considered to be "commercials". We did not pay dues and I still could use the BBQ's. It was in the dockage fees. The ones they supply are nice, but they are real low end gas grills. I am not sure who cleans them as they said, since every time I have cooked on them I need to clean it off first. It was brought up that the boaters may want to look into making it a co-op if it is indead for sale. However the owners that were at the meeting would not discuss what the sale price may work out to be. So that will not get off the ground. (Or should i say up on plane)

It was also suggested that the use of e-mail be explored so that big brother does not need to review the Hard copy before it goes out. I actually felt sorry for Fernando with the crap he is taking from the members (yes me included) as well as from a few of the owners.

My wife and I left with no more info than we came in with as depending upon whom you spoke with you got different info. I guess time will tell. One gentleman that I spoke to just moved to the club. This will be his first year, I wonder what he thought of his decision after this meeting.....
