SPBM

I think everyone will work thru the winter and get their operations back up to speed.

Just my thought on this.

I must agree with that. This is how they make a living and with the short season we have in NY they need to get building or they will no longer have a business. It does not matter is the revenue is not flowing the towns will still want the taxes paid on that great water front property..

Its really a shame, a lot of us had some of the best times of our lives at SPBM.
Some of the menbers go back 10-20 years or more.
People move on for all different reasons, its sad destruction is one of them.

We have been there for 15 years, and made many friends and memories through the years and now it's time to move on and make new memories and still enjoy the friends.
Can't wait till next year!
It's going to be Rainbows and Lollipops!

Bob I have seen the Rainbows but you are going to have to bring your own Lollipops:) Gin on the other hand that seems to flow around our dock well at least on my boat!

That's very good news. I like that Valvetech. Maybe my imagination but boat seems to run smoother on it.

Was at SPBM today and that machine really pulls the silt out quickly. I'd say the entire marina should be dredged by end of weekend.

There's enough fuel in the destroyed boats for all of us to use for the entire season.

That could really cause a huge hazmat issue.

I was thinking that too John. The Fuels docks disappeared. Where is all that gasoline & diesel? Something must have been lost, no?

And the boats? I would think many of them leaked too.

The fuel and pumps are on land what is on the dock are just dispensers should not be an issue! As for the fuel on the totaled boat as Rommer said this could be an issue! Many of these boat took on water making their fuel questionable at best. Some boats tanks are fine and should be pumped out I know I called dibs of the fuel in the boat next to me if it is in fact totaled, I believe the tanks are in tack. Sorry Bill but someone should use it might as well be me:)

And you didn't take any pictures? C'mon!

Lol...yes I know.they.are just dispensers. Was wondering if fuel ended up
in the water from the lines etc when they broke apart.

It's very odd seeing the Haverstraw gas dock gone.

There are suppose to be quick disconnects to prevent any large leakage. What was in hose before valve will leak. That amount is nothing compared to what leaked out of the boats that sank. That and all the sewage and other items made the water less than desirable. The good news is the impact did not seem as bad as I thought it would have been and appears to be cleaning up quickly. I would be interested to see if the river keeper did any water samples after the storm.

Well here is a stement from river keepers site for 11-2-12. They did six sites. GW bridge mid span was acceptable. Keep in mind this is bacically sewage.

Last Friday, Riverkeeper conducted our first patrol of New York Harbor since Sandy. The water quality
conditions "looked" really good, better than average, at all sample sites except the Gowanus Canal. There, the
water was grey and opaque, which is often the case when high levels of sewage contamination are present.

I read one of NJ's largest sewage plant is dumping millions of gallons a day into NY harbor, near the statue of liberty.

That's exactly what I was curious about. I knew whatever was in
the lines would end up in the river but wondered if there was some sort
f safety device to prevent a larger spill. Especially in a situation like
this where they were apparently just ripped off. Really hard to believe
all the damage created by this storm, I wouldn't want to worry about
hurricanes on a regular basis but it looks like that might just be what we may
be facing.

I did take pics but I don't know what happened. They are very blurry

But the Riverkeeper said it looked real good down there. Maybe he's got a thing
for septic tanks.
