Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...I just heard that our favorite place, Tequila Jacks is not opening this year or ever again. The property was sold and the new owners are putting up condo's. I heard this from a pretty reliable source, who knows an insider there. I know they had thought they were going to get 1 more year on the lease, but it looks like that is not going to happen.

That really bites!! Any recommendations on a comparable replacement??

Bad enough we're losing mainland waterfront to condos. Now they're razing perfectly good Fire Island bars to put em up. It's a sad day on the south shore for sure.

Rich, where did you hear about this?

I think it was brad that said the neighbors were all fed up with the noise.... so they bought it....

WTf... WEre running out places guys ......

Rob

I liked TJ's becuase they didn't charge for docking, so when I took work guests there, they would just pay for dinner and other than gas, which I got, there were no extra expenses. Kismet is good too, but they charge for docking.

Now I need a good place to take work guests where I don't get charged, any ideas?

Didn't we hear the same thing last year around this time? Hopefully its just a rumor like then.

Dave..... You can always run to Freeport's " Nautical Mile " on the Woodcleft Canal...its loaded with free docking resturants.......but you'd be better off picking up the dinner tab....and let your guests pay for the fuel...... :) :)

You also have Molly Malones in Bayshore too.........

maybe you can make this a page in the LIBI folder............." South Shore Waterfront Resturants " ....other than F/I ???

Don
I keep forgetting about freeport... Thats a great place to take people....

Rob

Don,
Work usually will pay for entertainment which means dinner/drinks with receipt. Fuel is not easy to put through, though I could probably get it through, I don't try. If I am taking out of town guests out, I have 2 choices, restaurant on land or one on the water and my vote is on water, since I get to run the boat. Did that like 5 times last year.

I will have to check out Freeport, whats it like getting in and out of there at night? I like Fire Island, cause if I have guests from Germany, they like to see the ocean and its nice to get off the mainland. That plus the easy cruise at night over there and back is appealing to me. Freeport you gotta deal with canals, bridges and you got no ocean.

We need more fire island restaurants like TJ's.

Rob, I did hear that the residents were fed up with the noise etc, but not sure if they were the ones who bought it; this was in the makings for few years now. Sea View did a similar thing, except, they took control of the marina.

Dave, I really do not consider Kismets charge a dock fee. For Lunch it is $60, but it is a credit toward food and drinks. Overnight is $100 and again a credit. I really like Kismet, even with no electric or water.

Other choices could be Molly Malone’s or Capt Bill in Bay Shore. I do like Molly’s, but no tank tops, Don was a show off and they gave him a shirt….. ;--)

Still have other places east… Flynn’s, Mathews, Maguire’s, Mermaid, if you get into the Ocean Beach town dock you have even more places. Also, during a week day, you can dock at Atlantique and water taxi over to OB. So there are options, just one less, but it does suck to loose TJ’s.

Dave,
Little Mermaid has free docking if you eat there. I thought the docking comes off the dinner bill at Kismet, No....

Walter

Walter, you are correct, as I mention above there really is no dock charge unless you don’t eat at the “IN” You could consider it a dock fee with free food up to the dock charge. You must us the credit for that day or night only. Use it or lose it, if you lose it then it is a real dock charge.

They hand you a credit slip for Lunch, Dinner, or overnight which is dinner and a little extra. We mostly stay for the night. $100 credit and believe me, between the wife and I it gets all used up and then some.

Yes, it is a credit, but thats the issue. To put it through you want one receipt for the meal. When I go to kismet there is one charge for the dock, then it comes off food bill, so food bill receipt shows the credit. Prefer it to be all on one nice receipt for just food. But I guess I can get it thru if I have to.

Guys, what about the sunset from TJ's. Which restaurant would you recommend in place of TJ's for the sunset? I too have brought co-workers from Germany to this restaurant and came home at night- They loved the sunset, the palm trees, the ride home on perfectly calm waters in the dark.

Dave......Brad reminded me ......there is a dress code at Molly's. " NO TANK TOPS ".... A rule I think is nuts when your out boating.....but its still a rule. Sometimes if you don't have a T shirt....they will give one ( if they have )

Don,
I have seen you in a tank top and.....I FULLY SUPPORT THAT RULE!

Jeff,
Where from in Germany? I did the same thing, had one girl from my wifes company, run to beach rip off clothes and go in water and I was like.....we don't do that in NY, maybe in Europe. But it was funny!

Sunsets at TJ's can't be beat. This is gonna hurt. Place was the best. Maybe the rumour is false.
